About our clinic
Blackburn South medical centre is an accredited family medical practice that has been providing medical & paramedical services to the local community since 1986.
We pride ourselves in providing high quality medical care, with patients always given the necessary time for an appropriate management plan to be determined, and for any of your queries to be answered.
We have 8 General Practitioners, both male and female, offering early morning and late evening appointments. Accommodating you with appointments on the day is usually possible with children given priority.
We Bulk Bill Pensioners, Health Care Card Holders and children under the age of 16 during weekdays. All other patients will be charged a fee. Saturday consultations will incur a slightly higher fee. Please see your doctor or the Practice manager if you have difficulty in paying. All patients who see the nurse will be bulk billed.
We also have Allied Health at the premises for your convenience. They include:
- Pathology Collection Centre
- Echocardiograms / Holters
Please note, that some of the allied health providers bulk-bill their consultations. Please also check with your doctor if you are eligible for free consultations to some of the allied health providers under a careplan arrangement. Please call the practice for further information, or to make an appointment.
We provide a personalised and caring service for you and your family. There’s nothing worse than being treated like a number, so our team takes the time to understand your situation and provide you with an accurate diagnosis or treatment plan. We have male and female doctors together with nursing staff that can attend to your needs.
Consultations are by appointment, but urgent cases will be dealt with promptly. Patients attending without a booking will be fitted in at the earliest available time. If you cannot keep your appointment we do require you to cancel the appointment at least 2 hours prior, so we can offer this appointment to another patient.
We usually make 15 minute appointments, but longer appointments are available at your request. Normally with complex cases, or if there are 2 or more problems to discuss, a long appointment will be necessary.
Other services that may be required
Referrals & Scripts: A short appointment is necessary for repeat referrals & scripts. Under some circumstances, a repeat script may be issued by a doctor for $20.00.
Pathology Results: The doctor will let you know when to expect the test results to arrive at the practice. You will be required to call us in that time period so we can relay what the doctor has noted in file. You will not be required to see the doctor for your results if he or she was happy with them. If they want to discuss the results with you in detail, you will only then be required to make an appointment. For urgent results we will call you immediately so that the doctor can discuss the matter with you.
Phone Messages: Any message left for your doctor to call you back will be dealt with, based on the urgency. In most cases the doctor will respond within 24 hours.
Home Visits: They are available for very sick patients unable to come to the surgery, by their doctor who normally cares for them. However a locum doctor will be sent to you if the doctor is extremely busy.
